Race Timing

What is a Timing-Tag?
An electronic device embedded in a small sticker, a timing tag is unique to each bib number and will record a runner’s official time, beginning when a participant crosses the start line and concluding as he or she crosses the finish. Timing tags are affixed to the back of the actual race bib and will be distributed at the Expo with each runner packet.

Gun Time vs. Chip Time
The 2017 Sedona Marathon Events will be timed using chip timing technology and award all Overall prizes (top three) based on gun time as opposed to chip time. Gun time is the time from when the start gun sounds to when you cross the finish line, and is deemed by USATF (USA Track and Field) to be the fair measure of a race awards/prizes finish order. In addition, we will publish results in finish order based upon chip time. Chip time is the time from when you cross the start line to when you cross the finish line, and is considered official for recording your personal best, specific course records, and qualifications for meeting entry standards in other events. Click here for complete competition rules as determined by USA Track and Field.

Remember: NO BIB TAG, NO FINISHING TIME! Your bib number must be worn on the front of your body at chest height – outside of your additional layers – visible from the front please – in order to be read by the timing systems. Do not bend/fold/cut/alter the bib number and timing tag in any way. NO need to return the bib/tag post-race, it’s yours to keep!
